Portal is really cool. I was quite smug that I was able to finish it without any cheating. But then I tried the advanced bonus maps and I couldn't do any of them. It make you appreciate how difficult it is to design a good Portal map.

If you want to try a portal-based game for free, download Narbacular Drop from Nuclear Monkey Software. This is the original, proof-of-concept game that became Portal.

I'm hoping that Half-life 2: Episode 3 includes a Portal Deathmatch module.
