I'll admit that I feel nervous sharing. I don't consider myself an expert in the field of marketing...
Also, thanks to every TE member that helped me achieve the CCNA

Over the last couple of years, i've been to lots of different interviews ranging from 1st to 2nd Line roles and along the way I have collected real interview questions most of which may seem standard stuff. I have had nearly 20 IT interviews in the last 2 years and a bit and I noticed a lot of them ask very similar questions but worded a bit differently. I noticed there's a lot of people around trying to break into IT or perhaps going for a career change and I know how that is especially if you are not used to these sorts of questions. I have found it helpful in building up a questions base because then it prepares me better before interviews.

So I decided I want to share what I have gathered up because I think had I had this same level of interview experience as I do now, 2-3 years ago, I think I would have been better prepared and less nervous. I have left out the more technical questions because in my experience these usually come in the form of written or practical things you need to do. I sincerely hope this helps someone who is worried about interviews, needs help preparing or anything really.

Hey all, A little about me first, I'm 20 and have been kind of meandering through community college on a liberal arts transfer degree path. Now I've decided to focus on what I think I have the most aptitude for, which is computers. I've been in front of a computer much of my life, unfortunately messing around playing games rather than learning a programming language or anything. So now I want to gain the skills needed to start on a path to an IT job.

I just registered for the two foundational IT courses at my community college, which I don't think I'll have a problem there. I am very comfortable with computers and I generally understand the "logic" of a computer. From there I can take classes such as databases, virtualization, different networking classes, and a few different programming classes. I am open to learning basically anything so any suggestions on different courses that would be valuable to me would be great.

I have also looked at Khan Academy which seems interesting. I will have to re-install windows on my laptop so I can follow along with him on the videos. Self study is difficult for me though, too easy for me to blow it off. That is why I'm not really currently looking at WGU either. Anyway thanks for any thoughts and opinions from you IT pros out there.

Hi guys I am curious for your opinion.

What is job in general is more difficult (day-to-day tasks and responsibility) someone that does only a systems admin (Microsoft) role or someone that does a pure network admin role (Cisco).

In terms of salary which type of admin earns more.

In 'general' I know many factors come into play :)

Many thanks in advance.

I have been looking around lately to see what all employers are looking for when it comes to network engineers. I'm finding that a lot of jobs are looking for people with CCIE level R+S knowledge, but then want either extensive security or voice experience as well. Some are even listing all 3. How do you break out of being just a network technician and into network engineering when the requirements for entry are so high? I work at a small place with only 3 network engineers, but none of them have that much experience, and my last place of employment was a large company that split all 3 into 3 different job categories. I'm wondering just how common this is around the country or if this is just happening in my area?

Finally! A FTE position with benefits and matching 401k along with vacation days and sick. I know for some this may seem silly, but I have been literally a hired gun for the last 3 years and now it's time to transition into something more stable. This positions is heavily into requirements gathering as you would expect for a BA position. However there is a heavy data element to this position as well. I would say it's 50/50 at this point, but obviously when I start I will get a better idea. I have received the thumbs up and just need to fill out the HR paperwork. I'm excited and hopefully this is my last job post for a long while. Being 37 puts me in a serious risk bracket if I continue to hop from contract to contract. This BA position is aligned with a app dev effort, not infrastructure or service management like I am used to, even though the last 3 month contract was heavily into app dev and ETL. Cheers.

OK so a little background. I have gone through the process for job #1 and they are going to offer me the position of network engineer sometime today or tomorrow, pending a reference check which will come back positive. That process has taken about 6 weeks from start to finish where we are now. In the last week I have had another interview with job #2 since I was like why not I'm waiting around anyways. They liked me so much they pushed my final interview to this Friday as they know I had this other offer. To clarify I would prefer job #2 as the pay is greater and more desirable location.

So with that said I would prefer job #2 but it is no way guaranteed as I still have a final interview on Thursday. If job #1 comes back to me today and offers me the job, what do I say? Something like... "Sorry I have another interview for somewhere else I would prefer going to on Thursday. Let me wait and see if I get that one first."

Has anyone been in this position? Is it OK to ask them if I can think about the offer for 3-4 days?

Thanks!
