I passed my 220-701 last week, with a score of 695. I passed my 220-702 with a score of 700 today! I dont think my scores are that great, but I am glad I passed.

I took a class at my local college to prep for my A+, bought the "complete guide to A+, seventh edition" (Mike Mayers) book, and watched free professor messer videos.

Also, an A+ Cheat sheet I downloaded off of here, helped me a lot!

I think the 220-702 was a little hard then the 701, but a lot of the questions were exactly the same or similar.

My Question is, how do I receive my certification now? Do I contact comptia? will they mail it to me?

my 2nd Question is, what exactly is ther certification? Is it a card that goes in your wallet? and/or a certification, like a hs deploma?

Hi guys, I'm new to this website. I just took the 701 and passed with a 693!!

I feel that I was more prepared for the 701 than I am for the 702. I had 2 classes in my school that were about the A+, but I took them about a year ago. I also read through Jean Andrews Comptia A+ 2009. Our school also gives us free access to measureup quizzes.

I was getting good scores on the practice 701 and not so much the 702. Then again, I only have about 4 questions from the practice exams that were on the actual A+. I am taking the 702 tomorrow.

Does anyone have any key points that I should focus on for the 702? I am going to go over the study guideline's today and take some more tests before tomorrow.

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[EDIT]. I have an opportunity to go through a free self-paced online course that a university will provide access to then pay for one certification afterwards. Wouldn't it be better to go for the net+ and then use their resourceS to self study for the A+ and pay for that myself later if need be? Or should I get A+ plus first then go for net+ and pay for that on my own. I have a B.S. in national security and I want to be in the cybersecurity IT field.

Currently there we have someone who is doing electronic document conversion for our company as a long term temporary employee. She is extremely positive, and is a very fast learner, but has very little IT experience. She has expressed interest in learning more IT skills and I pointed her at the A+ program as a good foundation curriculum.

Since I am already considering adding another position to the department in the coming budget year (and that position would be entry level desktop type work), my gut says that this could work out for both of us.

What I would like to know (since I have never done the A+ course) is how ready would an A+ cert'd individual be for work as an entry tech. What kind of training time is expected from a student who comes to the course with only a basic understanding of Windows.

Now don't get me wrong, I know there will be a lot of on the job guidance in the beginning, but am I crazy in thinking that this could work?

For those who finished the cert, did you feel like the training gave you the skills you needed to work at a helpdesk?

I just finished reading the Mike Myer's book front to back while taking notes on concepts that I wasn't familiar with. To be honest, it's a lot of information and I don't expect myself to remember all the information. So my question is, where should I go from here? I guess the obvious is to go over my notes, but are there good practice books that I can take so I can test myself while looking at my weak points? I was looking into the Exam Cram practice book and was wondering if any of you guys used it?

Also, I noticed that the 801/802 asked about a lot of small details (like PCI bus speeds for example). Do you recommend any flash cards for these?

Thanks.

Hello all, after lurking for a bit this seemed like a great place to reach out and get some tips.

I initially was casually going through the book I got (Comptia A+ Complete Deluxe Study Guide) but a friend works IT for a company that has someone who is going to get promoted and is creating an opening for a newbie. From the point I heard this (His company is awesome) I have been busting out ~60 pages a day and still understanding it fine. I am getting ~80% on the chapter tests, and every online full test I take I am receiving 60-75%, even though I am only 1/2 way through the book. So I am fairly confident.

My question to the community is: Any other tips or anything that I should be aware of?
I have a good chunk of personal experience building my own computers, assisting friend with theirs, creating and maintaining VPNs. Oh and I have a chunk of Laptop experience too (enough where the chapter on laptops was redundant). But any assistance would be appreciative.
Also anything I stress on a resume? I am coming from working in a Bank for the last 3 years and served in the Army National Guard for a few years.

Thanks in advance.

I'm currently taking a year long "Computer Support" class at a vocational school right now (it's a very self-paced, self study program) and I'm not...

I'm currently taking a year long "Computer Support" class at a vocational school right now (it's a very self-paced, self study program) and I'm not sure how to build up the knowledge to pass these two exams. My class is using the "Mike Meyers' Comptia A+ Guide To Managing and Troubleshooting PCs, Fourth Edition" for the aforementioned tests.

I understand that it's hard to give advice without knowing the said person's aptitude, so I'll explain to the best of my ability. When it comes to using any Windows OS (mostly XP and 7), I can find my way through the Start menu and the control panel better than most people I know. As for hardware, I've not learned much beyond knowing about hard drives, optical drives, USB connectors, audio jacks, ethernet ports, and various common peripherals.

Although my knowledge is lacking compared to most techs, I do feel that I am somewhat proficient with what I know already. I take pride in the fact that I learn topics rather quickly, which is why I am hoping to obtain my certification by the end of August this year.

I intend to read the above book from beginning to end, but figured that I could use some advice as to how I can study to retain what I've learned and not end up with a cert, but no skills to back it up. Anything material on the test that might be worth focusing on while I study? I hope to go on to get my Network+ and so on, but I have to start somewhere. Sorry about the length, but I would greatly appreciate any advice from some more experienced techs. Thanks in advance.

Recently got a new job. I don't have any certs right now but new job requires I get at least an A+ or higher and MCTS 70-680 Windows 7 configuring. My question is should I just get the A+ that is required or save money and get something a little more attractive/useful like security+? If I take security+ or higher my work will re-imburse me. Out of my own pocket for A+ or network+. I figured at 1st I would just get A+ because its easier, do just what I need to keep my job and then work on the security+ at my own pace instead of feeling pressured to get it or lose my job.

Additional info....
- I have 3 months to get certs
- this is my 1st it job
- on a budget
- 1st post - I'm new here :)

Any advice would be helpful, thanks!
