Finally managed to coax my employer to send me on this training, small victory in this! Runs for three days and begins tomorrow. Will post back a breakdown of how each day goes. Might just benefit other TE members who may be looking at this training.

From what I've heard, VMware have picked up their game recently so I should hopefully be able to get a lot out of this. Added bonuses are the 100% exam voucher and a free exam prep workshop for the DCD.

I've a very sore throat and can barely speak as of today. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow, hard to concentrate when you're feverish and on tablets.

I'm preparing to take my VCP-IaaS exam. The exam is based on vCloud Dir 1.5. I'm trying to get it setup in my home lab, however since Vmware released version 5.1, 1.5 is no longer able to be downloaded. I've reached out to VMware and all they did was send me to their evaluation site, which does not have it available.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have searched the internet and their does not seem to be another place to obtain the appliance. Please note I am not looking for pirated software, just the 60 day evaluation copy so I can get ready for my exam.

I am a helpdesk tech/sharepoint admin/light system admin wanting to zero in on VMware . My experience with VMware consists of adding new hosts to a cluster and creating VM's. I have a basic understanding of networking and SAN's but its def. my weakness.

Based off my research, here is how I plan to study. Feedback would be great. Need motivation.

- Build nested lab with a single PC (real lab not an option right now)
- Go through Trainsignals VCP5 course mirroring my lab with thiers or as close as i can get it with nested
- Read Scott Lowes mastering vsphere 5
- Creat flashcards for things that need memorizing like maximums
- Take practice exams

Anything I'm leaving out? Would like to be ready in 2 to 3 months. Would like to pass exam first then take required vmware course.

Thanks

Remediate remote hosts using central VUM

Ran into an interesting design problem at work. Design calls for a central vCenter to manage multiple remote site hosts. How do you go about remediating these remote hosts? There's a 1 to 1 relationship between vCenter and VUM. Pushing remediate package for each host across WAN seems extremely inefficient. I get the feeling if we deploy a repository at each remote site, VUM will pull the patch to central then push it out to remote site.

Anyone have a good solution? I think auto deploy with local TFTP server at each remote site will probably work, but statelessness of 5.0 auto deploy makes this a tough sell.

Hii All,
I want to know about the basics of networking for VMs,most importantly on what basis does one assign IP addresses to the Vms while configuring if i am assigning static ip addresses.
I wanted to understand the different scenarios and usage accordingly which IP addresses are assigned -
1) when i want only the VMs to talk to each other only.
2)when i want the VMs to talk to other physical computers on the same network as host network.
3)when i want the VMs to access the internet.
4)when i want the VMs to talk to other VMs on another host on the same network as the former host

Thanks and Regards,

I was able to successfully install the vMA appliance and update it in my vSphere environment, then added servers to it (2 hosts and the VMware vCenter Server appliance). I ran the 'vifp listservers' command and it successfully lists the 3 that I added. The next step, as I understand is to add a target, so when I ran the command 'vifptarget -s <vCenter Server IP>', it returns '-bash: vifptarget: command not found'. I read somewhere that you can change the directory to '/opt/vmware/vma/bin' but when I did I got the same error. What can I do here? Anyone else have this issue?
