Hi Guys/Gals,

I have my 70-685 and 70-680 which means I have a MCITP:ESDT. There is an upgrade path of "MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure Certification Upgrade".

415, 416 and 417 are the exams that I would need to pass to upgrade. Just I want to now get inot the server certification and cannot see if it's worth going down this path to make it faster to jump up to the server certs.

Might be easier once the Server 2008 exams are out of the way.

Can you please help with letting me know if its worth going for the upgrade or just heading straight for Server 2012.

Thanks in advanced :)

Passed an 70-411 this morning with 849 score

So couple of thoughts.

1) Bought an 30 day access to MeasureUp test and was quite dissapointed. Very vague explanations to the answers and overall not impressed at all.
For example Kaplan selfetestsoftware I could use as an learning material, because the explanations were very detailed.... in MeasureUp the explanations mostly were in the same level as in free .vce exams.

2)Watched also CBT Nuggets and Trainsignal videos. They give You a good overview, but nothing else. Preparing only from videos would be basically a suicide....

2) Used a lot of TechNet references and imo that's the way to go into this exam. The biggest problem right now is that there isn't a decent book for this exam, so you have to grab the information from a lot of sources. Took overall 4 weeks to prepare and around 2-3 hours learning per day.

Hey All,

I work for a large Telecommunications company and have decided to start studying the Server 2012 material. I am starting with 70-410. There seems to be a lack of actual study guides. The only true study guide I have seen on Amazon doesn't come out until July 1st.

http://www.amazon.ca/Windows-Server-...eywords=70-410

So I'm asking if anyone has taken this test and passed and what they suggest to use as a study guide. I recently obtained my CCENT but decided to switch to Microsoft as that is what my company mainly uses for their infrastructure. I have watched the whole CBT Nuggets series on this but I found it was only good as an introduction. James Conrad's voice drives me crazy so it was hard to focus and learn.

My second question is about setting up a virtual lab on my home computer using Hyper V. I am curious as to how long the trial version of Windows Server 2012, and Windows 8 last for? I find that doing Labs and applying what I have read is the best way to learn for me. I also have access to a ton of practice tests.

Cheers in advance.

I feel like the test is worded very poorly, but there is nothing I can do about that. I wanted to check and see what resources everyone else used to find some of the more obscure information on AD CS, AD RMS, AD FS, SoFS, etc.
Hope you all could help me to answer this question.

I have completed MCSA 2008 (MCITP: Server Administrator) about a month ago.

I am thinking of Upgrading my MCSA. However I am struggling of making the decision whether MCSA 2012 or MCSE Private Cloud.

In my opinion MCSE Private Cloud should be more valuable than MCSA 2012. However I have received different ideas from my

colleagues, Some said MCSA 2012 would be more beneficial as this certificate is new and many Companies will be moving to

Window Server 2012 rather than Windows Server 2008. Again Some also said MCSE Private Cloud would more useful and better

future (better Jobs) as I already know about Server Administrator 2008 the concepts between Server 2008 and Server 2012 are

not much different.

My Goal is to be an expert in Server Administrator and Visualization.

I will be very appreciated if anyone could shed up the light.

410 - 850
411 - 887
412 - 733

I scheduled this test 5 weeks ago and really meant to put more effort into it, but I just did the bare minimum. My last few exams have been like this where life and work get in the way and I walk into the exam and just kind of wing it. Work was the main culprit this time. I still managed to skim the 417 exam reference guide and watch a few of the Jumpstart videos. I knew I had some weaknesses so I am happy with the 410 and 411 scores and feel lucky to have escaped on the 412.

I am now officially an MCSE: Messaging on Exchange 2013. I passed the 2 Exchange 2013 beta exams back in the fall and needed the MCSA 2012 to earn the MCSE. Next up are 413 and 414 for the MCSE: Server Infrastructure, followed by the 687 to complete the MCSA: Windows 8. After that - who knows?

I just passed the 70-417 this morning with a summary score of 700.

70-410 - 775
70-411 - 700
70-412 - 766

Don't be mad, but I barely studied for this test... We had a free voucher from work that was about to expire so I went and took this test. Here is what I felt made me pass this test which I hope is helpful:

Extreme studying throughout the 2003/2008 exam processes. Real labbing, lots of real world experience, and a focus on in-depth UNDERSTANDING of subject material.

Watched the What's new in Server 2012 videos on cbtnuggets and read about the product as it is coming out.

Watched a few minutes of the MCSE upgrade video path on cbtnuggets

I would never recommend anyone reduce their study times because of this story. It's because I've put in thousands of hours into the Microsoft product lines and have a long history of exam taking at this point... I'm getting weathered. :)

I'm happy about this pass because I've failed probably 5-6 exams in my history so I've taken probably 15-20 Microsoft tests. This is also my 3rd or 4th time in the 700 club. :)

Hello All

Just thought I would let you know I passed my 70-417 exam yesterday. I managed to get a 900 which is taken from my lowest score which was from the 70-412 section. Managed to get a 925 in both of the other sections. I am happy with this score as I have been using Server 2012 since it was in beta (Windows 8 Server), I have installed it in production at work, and spent just over a month studying the material for the exam. The first couple of weeks was touch and go, but the last few weeks I was studying everyday.

To prepare for this exam, I used the MSPress book. IMO I didn't think the book was enough on it's own and frequently visited Technet (Windows Server 2012 | Technical Documentation, Download, Install, Deploy | TechNet), and even digged through my Server 2008 resource kit on certain topics I don't cover everyday such as NAP. My past studying for server 2008 exams and general working experience served me well in the exam.
I did a lot of labbing with 2 Server 2012 VMs, 1 Server 2008 VM, and 1 Windows 8 VM. I would make sure that anybody going for this exam covers all the new functionality WELL! The ones that stand out the most to me is DAC (Lab this as much as possible to understand the concept and steps of configuration), Hyper-V new features, IPAM, and DirectAccess.
Check out the Windows Server 2012 Upgrade Jump Start videos, if you are a bit fresh to server 2012 and in need of an overview:
Well I am going to move on to 70-413, but just in the background of my ICND2 640-816 studies for now. I want to catch ICND2 before 640-816 is retired in September. I have the MSpress book for 70-413 (Which by MSpress standards is quite thin), so I am guessing there will be a lot of references to web links etc. I will probably spend a couple of days a week going through this at first, until I get my ICND2 out of the way which now has the majority of my attention.

Good luck to all going for this exam!

Cheers
