Default Oh the dreaded CASP or CISSP question

    Hello guys and gals,

So Ive been in DoD world for about 10 years. I started from the bottom, call center/help desk to sys admin to now IA specialist doing like patching, updates, ACAS, C&A. I am not one of those gifted people that was born with computer knowledge lol if you know what I mean. I have crawled up and slowly learned. Now that I am in the IA world I feel like I should get to the next cert level. I do have Sec + and let me tell you, it took me 2 times to get. I am a terrible test taker so I am very scared to take another test. I would give my self about 4mths for CASP and maybe 6mths for CISSP so Im not trying to rush it but I wonder if I should just go for the big bang, CISSP and not even worry about CASP, or should I just focus on the lower level cert. I only mean lower level on what the DoD IAM guidance is. I do feel I have experience BUT like I said I am not a born computer guru, I learn by example so reading will be like pulling teeth with a tweezer and your tooth is infected.

I would love to hear your recommendations of either just going for the big dog or shut up and try the CASP.

    Thanks for you time.

The CASP exam is unique in that it has simulation questions while most other exams (Sec+, CISSP) are primarily MCQ.
And this can be intimidating to someone who has little to no hands-on experience. As in the name, CASP is for security pratitioner while CISSP is more for infosec manager.

Also take note that outside of DOD 8570, CASP is not as well recognized.
NDA does not allow me to reveal more, you can check out this

Will agree with Mike. I believe the target audiences are not necessarily the same with these exams. One appears targeted toward InfoSec management while the other is targeted toward hands on practitioners. That said, I will attempt CASP before CISSP but I think I know how the "levels" or targets have been conflated.
