Which is why I doubt that it will obtain the same recognition as the CISSP (less theory, more vendor specific/technical aspects)--in the short term.

The two information security heavyweights, (ISC)2 and ISACA, have established their market value proposition for their certification offerings. CompTIA's marketing team has their work cut out for them if they hope to elevate it to the same level of recognition as the CISSP, CISM, PMP, etc.

There are other certificates that are already well recognized (SANS GIAC being a very good example) and are in direct competition.

If it is to have value in the marketplace, the CASP has to be sufficiently differentiated from the competition, or otherwise it will die. Information Security is littered with failed certification standards that did not gain sufficient traction. Time will tell.
