Default Network security specialist or Hero?

    Dear members,

I was curious to hear your opinion about some job ads that seem to be very demanding in term of competences. I am wondering if is possible to master all these technologies. The following is the link to the official ads (I translated it with Google Translator)

I am wondering if have to consider those ads a sort of blueprint to head me towards the competences I would need to work as Network Security Engineer.

    Kind Regards, Francesco.

Great question. As I do work as an IT Security Admin, here is what I think after viewing the job. You must have a good understanding of at least a few of the technologies, a master of one for sure, and the concept of all of them. I work with Firewalls, Routers, Switches, IPs devices, Web Filters and so on.

My recommendations if you want to work as a security engineer.

Have a great understanding about routing, here I would recommend going Cisco as you will learn about all the technologies. Chris Bryant has some great videos on udemy.com that I highly recommend.

Next learn about the the Firewall: Objects, Policies, NAT, Proxy, user authentication, just to name of few these are the more popular features.

After this setup Squid at home to filter traffic.

During this whole time, get Cisco Packet Tracer or GNS3 to lab and learn

If you can think logically, and have an understanding about troubleshooting methodically, remain calm, and have time to learn, you can easily obtain this job role.

Brands to consider learning: Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Fortinet, Websense

Once you master one, you can get on any device and if you know what you want to do, you just have to learn the commands of the other device, this is easy.
