I don't want to sound like a whiner, because I know I speak for lots of people here when I say that the IT field sucks now. I'm still going for my CCNA certification because I do have an interest in networking, although probably not to the extent that alot of you have. Anyway, how many of you have thought about other career choices? I know I'm thinking about it right now. It's just that it's very depressing to read these subjects about people unable to find jobs. Gosh, I really wish I could afford to take a low paying job, but when I have a car payment and a student loan, both which I got WHEN the economy was good, it really discourages me, because I think once my money runs out, I can't AFFORD a low paying job.
I'm actually thinking about Paralegal studies now and then eventually law school. At least with Paralegal the jobs are greatly in demand, and latest research shows that they will be in high demand through at least 2010. Just a thought in case others are thinking of switching and not too sure what to switch to.
Another thing that gets on my nerve is when I read about all of the IT jobs which will go away and be shipped to other countries, that burns me more than anything. The job situation is this bad and they are planning on shipping more jobs offshore? I don't think they should even allow this, as it will put alot more people on the streets.
Anyway, I realize that people on here will think I'm whining, but I'm really not, it's more like I'm finally getting in touch with reality where I was in denial before it seemed. We all work so damn hard to get where we are and with the lower IT salaries now and scarce jobs, does it make it worth it? I know that money isn't everything, but it would be nice to at least make a living and to be able to afford a house and some toys some day if ya know what I mean. People keep saying that the IT job market will turn around and I keep waiting and waiting and waiting since they have been saying that for so long.
Again, I'm sure I speak for alot of frustrated others out there, and sometimes it's good to vent and get opinions of others as it can be pretty darn depressing when one is unemployed. I do have a B.S degree in IT at least anyway........
I'm planning on making up my mind about the Paralegal thing soon. I know the pay starts of kinda crappy(in the low 30's), but for a 9 month to 12 month school, it's more than I'll be able to make in IT it seems by the posts I'm reading on here....
Okay, I'm done venting now :)
