Question Best Linux+ CBT? Want To Learn Linux.

    Hello,

I do not plan to take the Linux+ exam, however I researched and looks like a great "crash course" into Linux. I have been using Unix for 3 years now (on occasion), so somewhat familiar but have made it a mission to learn Linux inside out, starting from foundations/basics in case I missed something.

What is a good CBT program in terms of learning/content? I see programs from CBT Nuggets, VTC and LinuxAcademy.

    Thanks!

    I've used L.A. & CBT.....

Linux Academy is SUPER Thorough......I passed my examine last month and I still find myself going through the course to firm up on real world concepts (i.e. Bash Scripting). However, I would not use this if I was on a strict time line and I want to pass the exam within two months or so. Each topic has like 2-5 videos per........

CBT Nuggets is good to pass the exam with. Short and concise, in line with the objectives.....etc I wouldn't want to use this just to learn Linux tho.

I'm watching the Linux Essentials CBT from Shawn Powers at the moment. I'm close to half way through the material. It does start slow, but it does pick up.

I feel confident that after watching and learning the material presented, I will have a serviceable base to start my journey toward completing the Linux+.

I can't vouch for the LinuxAcademy, although I will probably subscribe to it after I finish the videos I already have.

Linux Academy is awesome! They have put a lot into what they're doing to make it easier for people to learn. I really appreciate what they've done so far.

I just finished the CBT Nuggets Linux Essentials course by Shawn Powers. I must say, he is one of the most entertaining/fun teachers I have ever watched! It was slow in the beginning but then picked up as you stated. I just watched 2 hours each day after work and finished it across 3 days since it is just a 6.5 hour course.

Even though I have used Linux for work and other projects occasionally over the last 8 years, my foundational knowledge was lacking. This course helped tremendously with filling those small missing gaps and also was a great refresher! I am surprised Shawn Powers is not mentioned as much on here. Next week I plan to go through his Linux+ prep course which is 14.5 hours long. After that I will jump into the AWS videos by Linux Academy since we use AWS at work. I possibly may shoot for an AWS cert or two if I see the ROI.

I am surprised how much I am enjoying this journey of FINALLY properly learning Linux. I am seriously all giddy like a kid in a candy store. I "almost" want to take the Linux+ just for fun but can't justify $400 although I do like that the cert does not expire. I would have done RHCSA for fun but I don't want to deal with renewing certs unless it is something that would really help me in the Security sector like the CISSP.

    Thanks for the recommendation friend!
