    Default 70-299 Thoughts

What do you guys think of the 70-299? I have it scheduled for this Friday. It seems a lot like the Security+ exam. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

It is much, much more in-depth (and not nearly as broad) than Security+. Have you done 293?

No, the 293 is next on my list. I figured it would be the same material as the Sec+, only much more in depth.

Unless you have a good handle on MS PKI, you should absolutely do 293 first. That's a major section of this exam: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en...ms/70-299.mspx 299 also added some EFS and SSL stuff that I hadn't encountered in my 291 and 293 work.

This is nothing like the Security+. It's very in-depth with MS technologies. They're not going to be asking you basic things like which port to open in a firewall for <service>.

The 299 is a challenging test. Mine had about 35 questions. You need to read them carefully as I had 2 questions that were similar, but looking for different outcomes.
You NEED to know MS security protocols: CHAP,MS-CHAP v1, v2, EAP-TLS, Certificates, S/MIME, MPPE, EFS, SSL. Know what each is used for, when it is used. Know wireless setup and security.
Having taken the Security+ will help, but 299 is MS security land.

I am going for my MCSE:Security. I have the 299, 293, 294, and 298 left. I was going to take the 299 so the I could at least have my MCSA:Security, but would a better path be 293, 294, 298, 299?

lol...thanks! I've already started studying for the 293. So far, a lot of it overlaps with my Cisco training.
