    Cool Music to Study By

So what do you Play when you sit down to study, or do you listen to music at all?

I tend to play orchestral music, particularily Soundtrack music from some of my favorite movies like Glory, Last of the Mohicans, Lord of the Rings, Rudy etc. In addition, I like House/Trance music too. Essentially I don't like music with a lot of words in it as it distracts me but the wordless music seems to help me study.

Also, I like to make a compilation CD of random sonds for each certification I begin and then listen to it repeatedly. Seems the repeated pattern helps me retain the material.

*Currently listening to Paul Oakenfold while studying 70-270*

I listen to music while studying here and there but it distracts me some. Usually, I'll listen to a couple of songs to wake me up kinda and then I'm fine for a while lol.

I'll listen to hard rock when I study. I have to listen to music to concentrate fully. But when I'm doing any type of scripting, I can't listen to music.

Depends on the mood: sometimes classical, punk, goth, electronic, Norwegian black metal, most recently it has been Opeth though.

genXrcist, I have almost the same taste in study music as you. I listen to movie soundtracks almost exclusively when I study so there are no lyrics to really distract me.

I usually have issue focusing in the 1st 5 - 10 minutes but then I get so focused, weird...

I do when I am reading or doing a lab. Complete silence bothers me.

Music that does not have lyrics that I understand or Techno/Trance work well for me when I'm at the library or in a cafe. But, I prefer to just have the noise canceling headphone on and complete silence when I'm at home.

I hadn't thought about listening to music while I study, but now I think I will try it! Something without lyrics will be better for me, I think, so I'll put on some trance or techno and see what gives.

Of course this won't be possible if I'm watching a CBTnuggets video, but when I'm wading through a book or practising in my lab then it should surely break the monotony! I'll let you guys know how I get on....

Classical is the best it seems for me. If its anything other then classical or straight instrumental, I find that my attention span lasting maybe 8 seconds before I start beating on my desk and humming with the tunes.

Oh yeah, I love me some techno. Paul Oakenfold for example, is very popular over here in the states. His music is even on some car commercials (Saab). While this isn't the actual commercial, it's pretty insane sort of remix video.
