Yep...quite a few of us have already taken the new exam.

for english exam takers - 83-640 is the only option now and has been like that for a few months.

83-640 was the best MS exam I've ever taken.

Microsoft hasn't updated their site with this yet. The tests for MCITP:EA still show 70-640

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en...rver.aspx#tab3

Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

Does anyone have a link to Micorosoft stating this?

I'm studying for 70-640 now and bought the MS Press Core pack. I hope that will still prepare me for the new version, if that's really what they are doing.

The 83-xxx exams are lab-based; the content is the same between the exams. I believe they're just doing test-runs in select areas at the moment.

According to an article on MS Learning the 83-640 is the ONLY exam available now for English exam takers. If you load up your prometric you can't book 70-640 in English anymore.

Do you guys think other exams will follow suit? for example, the 70-648?

I believe it's a move towards increasing the integrity of the exams and making sure people can actually perform the tasks and not just dump some questions. I would wager that these types of exams will become more common as time goes on.

You are absolutely correct.

It would be nice if Microsoft updated the list of required exams on their website instead of having to hear it through the grapevine.

Wow, I think this is a really good thing, since I think MS certs especially have always had this "paper-cert" stigma attached to them.

Me no likey the $199 price on Trancender's site for this new one though....

I took the 83-640 and I can tell you that if you know the material covered in the MS press Core Pack for the 70-640 you will do fine. They just added a few virtual labs to do some hands on testing.
