    Default 70-480, 70-486, 70-487 Exams

So From the online chat via Microsoft, they are recommending these for .NET developers. These are supposed to be the latest. There are no study materials that I could find, also for 70-480, only 1 course (a) is available?????

I created a resource thread for the 480 exam here: 70-480 - Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3

You should also take a look at this free ebook.

I know I am sounding like a total shill, but I have no association with this company other than the fact that I have a subscription myself and I really enjoy their training.

Check out Pluralsight - Hardcore Developer Training as they have a ton of good training material that will cover much of the scope of those three exams.

How close is this book to the real thing, it seems to be this is a general book and is not all conclusive for 70-480?????

No, your observation regarding exam specific study material was on. None really exists. But I'll tell you flat out the 480 was an easy test. I'm sure I failed it because I only had a few days to prep for it. The results have still not been issued. But if I had managed to get just 3 weeks to cram I would have passed it easily.

I have spent most of the last year doing SharePoint and Silverlight development and had only recently started using jQuery. When the beta exam was issued I had barely even looked at HTML5 because I was so married to the SharePoint platform. Now that some people have gone through and blazed the trail of integrating HTML5 with SharePoint 2010 we are actively integrating HTML5 into our line-of-business projects so I am certain I could walk over to the testing center and pass that exam with no additional study as of today.

As far as my resource thread goes, I stayed within the NDA by not describing the exam and sticking to the syllabus - but I made every effort to ensure that if you studied the material on the thread and understood it you would be ready for the questions that I found difficult.

At the very least that should help you with the first exam. I refuse to retake it until I receive word that I failed it. But I am ready to start working on the 486 exam. So if you want to work together to build another resource thread, I know some people on the forum would be grateful.

Typically how long does it take for them to come out with this type of stuff. My employer needs to see a certificaiton within a 6 month period (gov thing). I need to get approvial that I can take this, if it's going to take more than a month for new materials, I might skip to something else????

You never know. For some of the dev exams they never come out with exam specific training material. It's really impossible to say.

Honestly, I'd just study up and do it.

Yeah it's kind of a roll of the dice, no study materials, no practice exams!!!!!! I see your tutorial, but how complete is this, I feel uncomfortable taking an exam with no practice exams and inclusive study materials.

Well, I cannot telly you every question on the current version was covered. But I made certain that I addressed everything that I did not know or things I found confusing. I really think you should just go for it. The exam was pretty easy and with the second shot offer they are doing now it won't matter if you fail the first time.

    Hi Robert,

Sorry i think i relied to the wrong post, previously. I was wondering if you had started studying or completed the 70-486 examination, and if you had any studying resources to recommend whilst the exam is still new enough to have no official prep tests or specifically targeted literature.

    Cheers
    Tim

Just a heads up: the Microsoft page for 70-480 does list a book (one of the Exam Ref series) for the test: Exam Ref 70-480: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3.

Looks like the book doesn't publish until April 2013, though: Exam Ref 70-480: Programming in HTML5 with JavaScript and CSS3*-*O'Reilly Media

I've not taken any of the current exams other than the 480. I have my retake scheduled for the 24th.

Currently the 480 is free: 70-480 Free course and voucher

    So check that out.

    Hi Robert,

Do you know if (like MCPD) exams can be done in any order? I am thinking of doing MVC as I have more experience with MVC and feel more confident doing that.

Sorry, I did not see this question. Yes, these exams can be taken in any order. The individual exams give you MS (Microsoft Specialist) designation. Here is my cert for the 480

Congrats on your 480 cert. I have decided to take the MVC one first as I have a fair bit of experience with MVC framework compared to HTML5/CSS3. I am being "spospored" by my work to take the exam (i.e. they are paying the exam fee) so I am trying my best to pass on the first go. Any tips appreciated

Like I said, that is next on my list so please let me know how it goes and post any resources you suggest using! I'm in the process of building my first real MVC site now and also a web API service at work. Hopefully between those two and the study I'll have good foundation.
