    Default MX records and priority

I’m certain that the answer to this question is “Yes they are the same” but I wanted to run it past you peeps anyway.

Say for example I have 3 mail servers and I create MX record in the following way:-

    MX [10] mail1.techexams.net
    MX [11] mail2.techexams.net
    MX [12] mail3.techexams.net

Now, the record with the priority of 10 has the highest priority, followed by the record with priority of 11 and then the one with 12.

Would it make any difference if I set things up like this?

    MX [10] mail1.techexams.net
    MX [20] mail2.techexams.net
    MX [25] mail3.techexams.net

Obviously, in the majority of scenarios I would always use the first example, but I just wanted to double check.

    Thanks,

They are the same. The advantage to listing it the second way is that if you ever add more mail servers you only have to add the appropriate MX record and set the priority wherever you want to insert it without editing the others. Not a big deal, but useful. I always list my mail servers as 10, 20, 30.....
