    Default Passed Network+!

    Hello all,

Passed my Network+ test today with a 873. I was surprised I scored so high (considering I had only studied for a week for it and completely farted out on many of the practice questions I studied - my average "correct answer" percentage on all practice questions I used was around 78-82% ) So the good news is perhaps the CompTIA exam question pool is not as difficult or as thorough/inclusive as many practice questions are - maybe!

Reflections on my test and reccomendations (based on my experience):

    1. Make sure you have a STRONG handle on troubleshooting and scenarios. I didn't see any of the "Required Result, Optional Result" style scenario questions, but it seems troubleshooting in general is heavily empashized.

    2. Make sure you know your TCP/IP protocol suite (especially port number and protocol assignments.)

    3. Know the OSI layers as they relate to both network hardware, mainly hubs, switches, bridges, routers and NICs, (NICs operate on Layers 1 and 2) and TCP, IP, IPX, and SPX protocols (TCP & SPX - Transport, IP & IPX - Network!)

    4. Know your media and connectors as well as the speeds and length limitations.

    5. Know your command-line (and in the case of WINIPCFG - graphical) utilities.

Those are the biggies that I saw.

My study program consisted of an Exam Cram 2 book bundle that included a book of Practice Questions for $39.99 (Barnes & Noble), TechExams.Net SE Study Guide - great value, great info, and great questions, and my own 32 page "home brew" study guide - which I can e-mail to anyone in PDF format who wishes to use it as well - has a lot of handy tables . Also practice tests, practice tests, practice tests - tons of good free ones out there - especially the ones on this site!

Oh and before I forget - since I'm now going down the slippery slope of MCSD (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer) certification - webmaster should open a forum for it as well I'll moderate it even!!! Hee hee

    Good luck all!
