    Default Printer Migration

Has anyone done a printer migration from a Windows 2003 server to a Windows 2008 server? I have seen alot of guides online but everyone seems to comment at the end of them that they fail. Also I'm assuming that the driver base for the printer would be different on 2008 vs 2003 so I wasn't sure if this was even possible.

    Firstly use this: http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsServer2003/techinfo/overview/printmigrator3.1.mspx

Migrate 1 to 2 printers first as a test and then update your clients. Once you are happy then do the bulk lot.

If you need to get up to date drivers then contact the manufacturer and replace accordingly.

Print Migrator download definitely isn't supported for Windows 2008. The info on the blog that was linked is correct though.

    Try Windows Server Migration Tools:
Migrate Server Roles to Windows Server 2008 R2

These were demoed at the Windows 7 / 2008 R2 launch events. According to the presenter, they are supposed to work well.

This worked great for us. We pushed it out when people logged in, and no one even noticed.

It isn't supported within 2008 BUT you can make a backup from your 2003 print server using it and then import the XML file into 2008. Check the second link.
