Default Considering Storage and Server +: worth it?

    Hi guys,

I'm really wanting to get the Server and Storage + certification. I know for a defined fact I'll do the Project + after CCENT but the Server/Storage certs seems interesting if anything at-least the storage one seem relevant. The Server one just seems like a more advanced version of A+.

It would be nice to know the knowledge for server repairs in a pinch instead of calling in a Dell tech each time something breaks on the servers. As for storage, well I'd like to get a better understanding of SAN's since I'm using them at work for VMware 5.5 (I know how to setup the volumes and all) but I'd like to learn specifics.

Giving me desires would they be beneficial? - I'm also curious if it would be a bad thing to have like 6+ certifications from CompTIA along with the Cisco Certifications and the VMware 5.5 cert before the end of the year or beginning part of next year. I feel like I'm going to become a certification whore, lol!!!

    What do you guys think?

An advantage to Server+ is that it counts as continuing education towards Network+ and A+.

that's good to know! - Security + just renewed them so I guess that's something to think about to do in a couple of months...

I haven't come across one job posting in the last 2 years that asked for Storage or Server+.

I'd venture out and go for something outside of CompTIA.

If you're considering Server+, I would recommend you to put your efforts towards Microsoft MCSA Server. Microsoft has more recognition, about 80% (Maybe more) of companies use MS Server.

Storage + may help you get a good understanding of the basics.

I agree with bigdogz. storage+ is becoming more and more useful with virtualization taking over the data center

I'm thinking of spending time on the Server+ material as well as the Storage+ material. Then afterwards, maybe taking 1 of the 2 exams.

Server+ never expires. However, Storage+ would renew all my lower CompTIA exams.

I see no reason to spend the money on both, given the low ROI. (In the end, I might just blitz thru the material and end up taking neither of the actual exams tbh.)
    Goals for 2017:
RHCSA, RHCE, LFCS: Ubuntu | Project+ | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer | Learn Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus, Golang | Improve Python Programming

He already has the VCP-DCV which has a pretty good storage aspect to it.

As for what some others have said, I think Server+ would be like middle ground between an A+ and a MCSA-Server cert.

The person before me just pointed out that Server+ never expires. I'm pretty much always for something that never expires.

Certifications are for you to further your career, knowledge, and interest. So if its something you want and don't mind taking the time to learn and have the money to spend on the go do it. I got play with Server+. I still want to get Storage+ but got to do other things first. Good thing about Server+ its for life so once you get it your done.
