    Default Wep/wtls?

Can anyone please clarify the difference between WTLS and WEP?

    Thank you

IIRC, WTLS is a certificate based authentication and WEP is just a passcode authentication.

WTLS is the security layer for WAP.

Some of these are a little tricky, aren't they? Esp. with Security+ I feel there are a lot of protocols that are very similar, or can at least be easily confused...

    WTLS/WEP/SET
    SSL/SSH
    Digital Certificates/Digital Signatures
    Asymmetric/Symmetric/Hashing
    Public/Private Keys
    IPSec/PKI
    PAP/PPTP/L2TP
    CHAP/MS-CHAP/AES
    RADIUS/TACACS/TACACS+

Then don't get me started on all the encryption standards and the key lengths they use and whether they are symmetric or asymmetric and block or stream and who made it and bla bla bla.. it's very over whelming at first for beginners.

Apologies, I never actually answered your question..

WEP provides authentication, and also encryption. Know that WEP uses the RC4 cipher. It's not considered a strong algorithm anymore. It exchanges the IV in clear text, and it does not offer key renewal.

WTLS is a member of a collection of protocols under the WAP protocol. It specifies a security standard under TLS. It's designed for low-bandwidth where lengthy delays between packet transmission and receiving... aka latency.

WEP for your wireless router, WTLS for your mobile phone and PDA.
