    Default Preparation for 70-290...

I suppose I had a bit of a disadvantage when I started studying for 290. Although I am an expert with XP client machines, most of my server-side experience has been with Linux and OS X. So I did the following:

    - Set up a home lab with a 2003 server and an XP client to play around. I explored every option in every application and utility so I had a basic idea of how everything was put together.

    - Read the Sybex book for more details and scenarios (ISBN: 0782142605).

    - Watched the CBT Nuggets for 70-290 (http://www.cbtnuggets.com).

    - Anytime I didn't understand something, I looked it up at microsoft.com.

Really, I don't think it matters what study materials you use, as long as you use a WIDE variety of sources. This will ensure that you gain at least a little knowledge on each of the test domains. If my test was a representative sample, I think the most important topics to study were:

    - Permissions for shares and NTFS
    - Backups and disaster recovery

There were four simulations on my exam, and they were easier than some of the traditional questions.

Please let me know if you want more information (without me violating the NDA, of course.
