Default MCSA SQL Server 2012/2014 Achieved

One of my New Years Resolutions for 2017 was to get my MCSA SQL Server 2016, and I can say that I am making progress. My MCITP DBA 2008 has been upgraded to the MCSA SQL Server 2012/2014. My route to this upgrade was pretty odd, as I was expecting to have to complete 70-461, 70-462 and 70-463.

On March 30, I took and passed the 70-462 exam. The next day I received a congratulatory email from Acclaim regarding achieving my MCSA SQL Server 2012/2014. At first I was confused because I had only completed one of the upgrade exams and didn’t get a chance to take the second exam before they expired it. Come to find out, they upgraded their requirements and now you can achieve the MCSA with some of the general Windows Server exams.

Note that my achievement date for the certification shows up as 07/2014 on the transcript. Odd.

On to the MCSA SQL 2016

Yeah. That is what I'm doing for MCSA. Taking 70-462 then probably 461 after that. Any good study resources for the 462 out there other than the MS Press and TechNet? I'm going to have half of my servers running SQL 2012 and the other 2014.

    Congrats man!

Never got passed 462, now I am moving on to a Teradata environment. Probably won't take another MS exam, but either way nicely done. Those are some hard exam.

There are a few Udemy courses I found helpful, specifically Denny Cherry's course. It's listed as being by Infinite Skills.

On the subject of surprising certificate upgrade routes, I think it's also possible to upgrade "MCSA SQL Server 2012/2014" to "MCSE: Data Management and Analytics" with just one exam chosen from a range: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/learning/mcse-data-management-analytics.aspx

I might try that, because some of the upgrade exams are very relevant to my job, and "MCSE" sounds good.
