Default MCSE: SQL server 2012 track path.

    I have MCSE: server 2003.

I am planning to pursue the new MCSE: Business Intelligence certification SQL2012 and will starting from the beginning. Can I apply what I learned for MCSE:2012 sql server to SQL server 2008? Many shops still use SQL 2005 and wont migrate to 2012 for at least another two or three years.

    Thanks

Yes, there is a lot of similarity between the versions so there is a lot you can use on older versions. You'll find that the majority of the T-SQL commands are the same and there's a lof of the same functionality in tools like the Enterprise Manager.

One of the things that Microsoft frequently does is emphasize new features in the exams so when you pass the 2012 exams, you will be learning about many features that aren't avaialble in the earlier editions.

    Good luck.
