Finished the VM template design. Had to push the submission a week back. Something interesting came up. Timing sucks, but need to take care of it first.

Completed project plan. Just need to finish up application form. Work experience and biography sections are gonna be painfully short.

Ugh.... Found a design flaw. Remote sites are designed as 4 host with ~100 VMs each. For maintenance, you'd want full auto DRS. DRS requires Enterprise license. Price difference between enterprise & ent plus isn't very big. If I switch licensing, I'd have to redesign networking at remote sites.

Woohoo... Ready to submit the design.

Problem: Can't figure out where to submit the design. Checked the blueprint, application & web page, but none of them list where to submit the design.

Did you pre-register for the defense? Here's the one for VMworld: http://mylearn.vmware.com/feedback.cfm?survey=41494

If so, you should have been receiving some emails from Mark detailing the steps. To submit, you email it to vcdx....at.....vmware.com and CC Mark Brunstad (first initial last name at vmware.com)

I had to e-mail Mark. He sent out a mass e-mail detailing where to submit for VMWorld VCDX defense.

Hit the big send button. Submission was 6mb in size. Hopefully it won't bounce. My trial Visio expires in 15 days, so I guess I should start working on my presentation.

Solid. After your submission I'd have been surprised had you not been asked.

Awesome! Congrats! That was a fast turnaround. Are you going to attend VMworld also, or just going for the defense?

Sigh.... jumped the gun. It's been forward to panelist review. They can still reject it. Guess more waiting.

Here's my timeline of events to give you an idea of how long each step took.

    1/4: Submission Deadline
1/9: Application "administratively complete." Meaning I filled in all the blanks. "Now pay me money to review your design."
1/26: Invited to defend at PEX. "Now pay me more money for your defense."
    2/1: Received defense time slot.
    2/28: Defense date.

I somehow "lucked" out and received the final slot of the week, which meant I spent most of the evenings after the sessions in my hotel room studying and revising my presentation.

My design was rejected. It seems I didn't spend enough time explaining 'why?'

Curious, did you pay anything to have your design looked at? Going by Brent's timeline, did you get to the end of 1/9?

Dang ... Sorry to hear that .. just shows how hard this one is - First thought on my mind when I saw your design "damn, that looks solid and I couldn't have done that myself" ...

I got past the adminstrative review. Didn't pass the technical review.

The way things are shaping up I would have had to pay for the defense out of pocket, so maybe it was a blessing to fail. Not planning on traveling internationally to defend, so my next chance is 2/14, I think.
